Day 1: Kilimanjaro Airport – Moshi

After breakfast and the briefing, take a three-hour journey to Londorossi Park Gate. Lemosho Glades can be reached by a woodland track that requires a 4WD vehicle. To reach the Mti Mkubwa (large tree) campground, stroll over woodland trails.

We proceed as the trail progressively steepens and enters the big heather moorland zone after breakfast. We cross a number of streams before continuing across the Shira Ridge and slowly descending to Shira 1 Camp, which is situated by a stream on the Shira Plateau.

Following breakfast, Shira 2 camp is located on moorland meadows near a stream after a leisurely walk across the plateau. This is a great day for acclimatisation because the Plateau offers a range of hikes.

We proceed eastward along a ridge from the Shira Plateau, passing the intersection and heading towards Kibo’s summit. As we proceed, we turn southeast in the direction of the Lava Tower, also known as the “Shark’s Tooth” (elevation 4650m/15,250ft). We reach the second intersection, which leads to the Arrow Glacier, shortly after the tower. We will now proceed to the Barranco Camp. This day is crucial for acclimatisation and will assist your body get ready for summit day, even though you finish the day at around the same elevation as you started.

Following breakfast, we depart from Barranco and proceed up the Barranco Wall on a rocky ridge to the Karanga Valley and the intersection with the Mweka Trail.

We keep going till we reach the Barafu Camp. You’ve finished the South Circuit, which provides a variety of perspectives of the top. Here, we set up camp, relax, eat dinner, and get ready for the big day.

We proceed to the peak between the Ratzel and Rebmann glaciers quite early in the morning, between midnight and two in the morning. You travel northwest and climb through dense scree in the direction of Stella Point on the rim of the crater. This is the most physically and mentally taxing part of the journey. After taking a quick break at Stella Point, you will witness the most breathtaking dawn you have ever seen. Faster hikers can see the sunrise from the top.

The one-hour climb to the peak from Stella Point may be completely covered in snow.have reached the highest peak on both Mount Kilimanjaro and the African continent when you reach Uhuru Peak. After reaching the summit, we descend directly to the Mweka Camp, pausing for lunch at Barafu. Trekking poles and gaiters might be useful for the loose gravel on the way down. We spend our final evening on the mountain after arriving at Mweka Camp.

We proceed down to the Mweka Park Gate to pick up your summit certificates after breakfast. It can be muddy and wet at lower elevations. Trekking poles and gaiters will be useful. It will likely be sufficient to wear shorts and t-shirts (have warmer clothes and rain gear on hand).
A Uprise Africa Tours car will be waiting for you at the Mweka gate to take you back to your Moshi accommodation, which will take about 60 minutes.
